Cat Scratch Fever.....

What do you get when you mix an anti-social cat with an ever so eager, very busy 9 month old? You get a 9 month old with a 2 inch scratch on her forearm. Damn cat! In his defense....should I even go there? Danica had been petting Punkin, with us monitoring just a few minutes prior, and Punkin got up from the couch when he was tired of it and moved across the room to the chair. Little did he know that wouldn't be quite far enough. Danica found Punkin just a few short minutes later, let our her excited squel to have spotted "ki ka" and proceeded to pluck at his tail, Daddy warned and pulled her away but she went back just one too many times and no one was quick enough for the wrath of our black panthers teeth. Danica wailed, Punkin ran off, and I scurried to get a cold wash rag to put on the "gash." After getting a cold compress on it to take the sting away, I did what any mom in this decade does, googled cat bites on the internet, only to find the recommendation, take your child to the ER immediately.....really? After much discussion and contemplation we settled for a phone call to our pedetrician's office--thank heaven for the 24/7 nurses line. The nurse, Rae, did recommend urgent care or the ER but said if we felt comfortable with the circumstances to clean it good, put neosporin on it and reassess in the morning and follow up with the office. So into the bath Danica went, we felt that was the easiest way to get it clean without focusing too much on the injury itself, more natural. Just let me tell you by this time, she was not phased by the events at all, you never would have known she had just been attacked by our family pet, I can't say the same for myself. I was worried about infection and how this was going to affect their interactions from here on out. By the way, it didn't she was back after Punkin later that day. Arm looks much better today, even better tonight than this morning and follow up with the doctor was, if it was a kitten they would want to see her and possibly handle things differenty, but since Punkin is "old" they were not concerned if it was not abnormally red or she didn't have a fever. YEAH! I guess this is just the first of many first aid sagas, but for the very first I have to tell you.....I think we were all champs!

Happy Spring!

Today has proved to be a great Spring day much like yesterday. Yesterday we decided to give those new shoes a try and took Danica outside to play in the grass. She loved it! After a bit of frolicking in the green we went for a little stroll through town and then back home to play in the grass some more while mommy cleaned some leaves out of the bushes.
Today it was out into the great outdoors for a little basketball, picking up sticks, a jog and a swing in Grammy and PaPa's tree---gotta love Spring! I was eager to shoot some hoops, even if Danica wasn't, I have to get some practice time in before an alumni basketball tournament next weekend. I am not worried a bit about getting my rear up and down the court, I am just not sure I will be able to hit the broad side of a barn. Anyway, I digress....spring has sprung in our parts and we are happy to see it arrive.

Who says it's not easy being green?

Well I know you have all been on pins and needles waiting for Danica's 9 month trip to see Dr. John and to find out exactly how big she is. Okay so maybe you weren't on pins and needles but here are her vitals anyway....She was 29 1/8 inches (95 percentile) and 20 lbs 5 ozs (75 percentile). She is a healthy little tyke!

Her appointment with Dr. John was late this afternoon so I took off work a little early, and since she has been walking we wanted to get her some good shoes to be able to wear outside and play so I headed to Stride Rite at Zona Rosa. The girl is not only tall like her parents but she has a big foot too : ) She comes by it naturally. The lovely young girl at Stride Rite welcomed us and measured Danica's foot, all the while Danica was having a great time, smiling and taking in all of the shoes. Did I mention we bought a size 5! She actually measured a 4 1/2 but the sales lady encouraged us to buy the 5 so she had "room to grow" (Check out the picture below for her fashion show.) After our Stride Rite stop we headed to Gymboree to check on some spring/summer duds--we found a couple of good deals and then ventured down the street to grab a couple of items for me at Express and then on to Target to do a bit of grocery shopping before we met up with Dr. John. After her check up the two of us headed to Red Robin for a little St. Patricks Day dinner. Danica was great!

It has been a wonderful warm few days and we have enjoyed several jogs through Hamilton, hopefully Spring has sprung!

I am often completely amazed by our little girl, Danica is absolutely full of so much personality and spirit. St. Patricks Day, just like each day of her life, has proved to be one to remember, full of joy, laughs, giggles and love!

Best of luck to everyone today and always!

Temper Tantrums....at 9 months?

I was truly amazed to find out on Monday from my mom, who watches Danica, that she had her first temper tantrum. WHAT? Yes, she wanted the box of kleenex, Grammy didn't want her to have the box of kleenex, so my angel decided to cry and even stomp her feet. I never knew there was potential for a temper tantrum so young. Maybe it was just a coincidence, let's hope it was just a coincidence--and blame it on teething. Isn't that what we are suppose to blame everything on?

Danica is 9 Months Old!

It is truly hard to believe that Danica is 9 months old. Each and everyday is an adventure full of new discoveries. The girl is a hoot to say the least--as a good friend always says "she is too stinkin cute!" Danica is taking more steps each and everyday and seems to be gaining more confidence with each step. Her favorite place to play is a fort she and her Dad have built using her pink blanket and our lounge chair. It is perfect for a game of peek a boo and she can see her self in the glass on the end table. She loves to do a walk through of the pictures on her wall and hear mommy and daddy make the animal noises and she insists on touching the elephant picture above her changing table constantly and when you say no, she turns to you and smiles and then does it again, what a gal!

Just this morning she had a cup of milk, or atleast part of a cup of milk, and I thought I would let her play a little and eat my english muffin before she had her yogurt/cereal and toast. How wrong was I? As soon as she saw me eating the english muffin, she came screaching towards me, climbed in my lap and reached for my english muffin---I think she was ready for her toast. So I postponed my breakfast and put her toast in the toaster. As we put her in her high chair she reached for her bib and proceeded to put it on, or at least throw it around her neck, all the while letting out a gleeful screech. The girl was ready for that toast! How do these little people get so smart so fast?

As Seen on TV

Our daughter is an infomercial junkie. There I said it. Well she may not be a junkie, but can someone explain to me why when Billy Mays (picture below) does an infomercial Danica stops whatever she is doing to watch and doesn't start back up until the commercial is over? She has a similar reaction when hearing the 90210 or FRIENDS theme songs, but that I get, they are about all we watch at this house besides ESPN. I guess Billy Mays is in the business he is in because he is captivating and sucks you in---I just didn't know he could suck them in so young.

I told myself I wouldn't blog about his but I have to tell you how I feel. I never watched the Bachelor but had to see what all the fuss was about so I watched the last 1 1/2 on Monday and a little of the 2nd "after the rose" on Tuesday. I won't even get into how silly these "After the Rose" shows are. I think Jason is admirable, everyone should live their life doing what they know is right for them and not worry about what people think of them, because ultimately it is yourself you have to live with, no regrets. Sure, it sucks for Melissa, but it sucked for Molly before and now she is happy as a lark. Granted I didn't follow the whole show, so I sure as heck can't claim I know what is best for him and let's be honest as TV viewers, even if you followed the whole season we don't know all of the ins and outs of both relationships, so who are we to judge. Jason is living his life according to his gut--that is cool!

Supper Club

I really need to get better at posting to this blog, if I am going to be a true blogger. Saturday night Kelly and I hosted the first Supper Club for a group of our friends here in Hamilton. We are hoping this becomes a fast tradition for years to come. We are a bit untraditional in our Supper Club approach, and casual to say the least, many folks were eating on my "good" china off their laps. I am sure you won't find that in any etiquette books. Oh well, the food was good, I probably would have eaten it off the floor, especially since I had just mopped. Kelly and I set a Mardi Gras theme for the night and we prepared a Jampasta, which is a spin on Jambalya in pasta form, it was delicious, and we prepared a themed beverage The Hurricane--tasted and enjoyed by many. Others brought Crawfish Etoufee, Moufalata (sp?), Red Beans and Rice, Salad, Cornbread, Yam Bisquits and King Cake. I am telling you what the spread was amazing and I am not sure but I think I could have lost my husband to the preparer of the Etoufee--good thing it was a dude! : )

It was a great evening with lots of great stories, I am quite sure this group has a fun future!
